Greater Bakersfield Turnout No. 2
This project was the final component of a major expansion of the Cross Valley Canal west of Bakersfield and provided increased capacity to facilitate water deliveries between Kern County Water Agency and the Department of Water Resources. Included in the scope of work was the construction of a three bay concrete turnout structure within the California Aqueduct, a concrete box culvert and pipe transition structure, 340LF of 144” reinforced concrete siphon pipe, a concrete metering structure, a concrete canal to pipe transition structure, and an interconnection with the Cross Valley Canal. A fabricated steel cofferdam was used to secure and dewater the work area for the turnout structure. The project was located in an environmentally sensitive area that demanded WML take special measures to reduce construction impacts.
